What is striking about the current sell-side is its dispersion: after Qualcomm’s fiscal third-quarter results in late July 2026, a wave of firms cut price targets and sat on Neutral/Equal-Weight ratings (Citigroup to $175, Wells Fargo to $170, UBS to $170), reflecting near-term handset and Apple worries — while others (Benchmark $270, Rosenblatt $235, Morgan Stanley $220) held constructive views. RBC nudged its target up to $180 immediately after the Amazon deal. This dispersion is itself the opportunity: the market is deeply divided on whether the diversification works, which is what leaves a ~15% gap between price and consensus and a much larger gap to the bull case.

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro debuted an in-house C2 modem, extending a multi-year program to replace Qualcomm silicon. Although the very top-tier Pro Max reportedly still relies on Qualcomm for now, the trajectory is clear: Apple intends to design Qualcomm out entirely. Apple has historically been a very large share of QCT handset revenue, and its full departure removes a high-volume, high-value socket. The mitigant is timing and pace — non-Apple QCT grew 18% in FY2025, and automotive/IoT/data-center growth is explicitly designed to backfill. But if the handset decline outruns the new-market ramp in any given year, revenue and EPS growth could stall, and the multiple could compress toward the bear case.
